Neftaly Women’s Health and Health Policy Initiatives for Women with Disabilities
Overview
At Neftaly, we believe that every woman—regardless of ability—deserves equitable access to comprehensive, respectful, and inclusive healthcare. Our Women’s Health and Health Policy Initiatives for Women with Disabilities are designed to break down systemic barriers, amplify voices, and ensure that health systems are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the unique needs of women with disabilities.
Our Vision
To create a world where women with disabilities experience dignity, autonomy, and optimal health outcomes—supported by inclusive policies, empowered communities, and barrier-free healthcare services.
Core Focus Areas
1. Inclusive Healthcare Access
We work to ensure that health facilities, services, and information are fully accessible to women with disabilities. This includes:
- Training healthcare professionals on disability inclusion and respectful care.
- Advocating for accessible infrastructure and assistive technologies.
- Ensuring accessible health communication (Braille, sign language interpreters, easy-read formats).
2. Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR)
Women with disabilities are often excluded from SRHR conversations and services. Neftaly advocates for:
- Comprehensive sexual and reproductive education.
- Access to contraception, prenatal, maternal, and postnatal care.
- Protection from forced sterilization and other discriminatory practices.
3. Mental Health and Psychosocial Support
We address the often-overlooked mental health needs of women with disabilities by:
- Promoting access to inclusive mental health services.
- Combating stigma and isolation through community-based support networks.
- Training caregivers and professionals on inclusive mental health practices.
4. Policy Advocacy and Reform
Neftaly engages in policy research, coalition-building, and lobbying to:
- Influence national and local health policies that impact women with disabilities.
- Promote disability-inclusive data collection and analysis.
- Strengthen accountability and monitoring mechanisms in public health systems.
5. Leadership and Empowerment
We invest in the leadership of women with disabilities by:
- Supporting women to take active roles in health governance and policymaking.
- Creating safe spaces for peer-to-peer mentoring and leadership development.
- Hosting dialogues and forums for women with disabilities to shape the health agenda.
Our Approach
Neftaly takes an intersectional and rights-based approach to health equity. We work hand-in-hand with disability-led organizations, healthcare providers, policymakers, and communities to co-create sustainable solutions. We center the lived experiences of women with disabilities and ensure their voices are not only heard but lead the change.
Impact Goals (2025–2030)
- Increase access to inclusive healthcare services for 1 million women with disabilities.
- Train 10,000 health workers on disability-inclusive care.
- Advocate for the adoption of inclusive health policies in 15+ countries.
