  • Neftaly Food Trends That Are Actually Science-Backed

Neftaly Food Trends That Are Actually Science-Backed

In a world overflowing with viral food trends, it can be hard to separate hype from health. But not all trends are just for likes — some are backed by serious science. At Neftaly, we believe in promoting food choices that are as evidence-based as they are exciting. Here’s a look at some food trends that are not just popular, but proven to benefit your body and brain.

    1. Fermented Foods for Gut Health

???? Trendy: Kombucha, kimchi, miso, sauerkraut

    ✅ Science-Backed: Yes

Fermented foods have exploded in popularity — and with good reason. They contain probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that support a healthy gut microbiome. A balanced gut is linked to better digestion, stronger immunity, and even improved mood.

Research Says: A 2021 study published in Cell found that a diet high in fermented foods increased microbiome diversity and reduced markers of inflammation.

    2. Plant-Based Eating

???? Trendy: Plant-based meats, dairy alternatives, flexitarian diets

    ✅ Science-Backed: Yes

You don’t have to go full vegan to benefit from a plant-forward diet. Reducing animal product consumption and increasing fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains has been linked to lower risks of heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers.

Research Says: According to the Journal of the American Heart Association, replacing red meat with plant protein significantly reduces cardiovascular risk.

    3. Intermittent Fasting (IF)

    ???? Trendy: 16:8, 5:2 fasting schedules

    ✅ Science-Backed: Yes — with caution

Intermittent fasting has gained traction for weight loss and metabolic health. While it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution, studies suggest IF can improve insulin sensitivity, promote cellular repair, and reduce inflammation when done properly.

Research Says: The New England Journal of Medicine reports IF may help regulate blood sugar and increase longevity — though it’s not suitable for everyone.

    4. Ancient Grains Make a Comeback

???? Trendy: Quinoa, amaranth, teff, farro

    ✅ Science-Backed: Yes

Ancient grains are rich in fiber, protein, and micronutrients often stripped from modern refined grains. They’re also naturally gluten-free (many of them) and offer slow-burning energy to keep you fueled throughout the day.

Research Says: Diets high in whole grains are associated with lower rates of heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, per the Harvard School of Public Health.

    5. Functional Beverages

???? Trendy: Adaptogen-infused drinks, mushroom coffee, nootropics

    ✅ Science-Backed: Emerging support

Drinks fortified with herbs like ashwagandha, lion’s mane, and reishi mushrooms are being promoted for their ability to reduce stress and improve cognitive function. While more long-term studies are needed, early findings are promising.

Research Says: A study in Phytotherapy Research shows ashwagandha may significantly reduce cortisol levels and improve mental well-being.

    6. Low-Sugar, High-Protein Snacks

???? Trendy: Protein bars, Greek yogurt, chickpea puffs

    ✅ Science-Backed: Yes

Consumers are ditching sugary snacks for high-protein, lower-carb options — and science supports the shift. Protein helps keep you full longer, stabilizes blood sugar, and supports muscle repair.

Research Says: The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that high-protein snacks improved satiety and reduced overall calorie intake throughout the day.

    Final Thoughts

While trends come and go, some stick around for good reason. The best food choices are the ones that nourish your body and stand up to science. At Neftaly, we’re here to help you make informed decisions rooted in wellness — not just what’s hot on social media.
